Shooting that killed 1-year-old, wounded man in South Dallas was targeted and deliberate, police chief says

A 1-year-old boy was fatally shot early Sunday in an attack Dallas’ police chief described as targeted and deliberate. The toddler’s uncle was also wounded in the shooting at a South Dallas home.

Police Chief U. Reneé Hall said the gunman, armed with a rifle, fired only into the windows of bedrooms, where he knew people would be sleeping.

“The gunman had to be familiar with the layout of the home,” Hall said. “He angled the weapon in the downward position. … He knew where to fire.”

Officers were called about 3:40 a.m. to the home in the 2900 block of Valentine Street, in Bonton near William Blair Jr. Park.
